> Day 28 has not met yet (title provisional). Friday opened the last topic, discrete-time deterministic dynamics. It set up the first-order map $y_{n+1}=f(n,y_{n})$, cut it down by the Diffy-Q taxonomy (linear, autonomous, homogeneous) to $y_{n+1}=ay_{n}$, and solved it, $y_{n}=a^{n}y_{0}$. That gave seven cases: equilibrium, growth, decay, and, unlike any first-order ODE, sign oscillation at $a=-1$, with growing or decaying alternation on either side. "We'll look at some graphs next time." The motivation was populations that breed in seasons, with a discrete predatorโprey pair as the preview and deterministic chaos as the destination, then randomness on top. Wednesday is the first workday. The transcript and captures fill in after Monday's class.
