# Modeling Project (MP3) - Initial Model and Test Canvas item text. **FINAL, built on Canvas 590872 (2026-10-21), due Mon 10/26 11:59pm MT per Scott.** - Type: **assignment**, submission types **text entry and online upload** (either one counts; PDF preferred for uploads, images and .docx accepted; a code file may be attached alongside) - Group: Modeling Project Work (see the gradebook spec on hold in `Administration/`) - Points: **1**, complete/incomplete - Due: **Monday 10/26, 11:59 pm MT** (moved from 10/16, the fall-break week, then from 10/23; shares the day with MA2) - Publish: unpublished, Scott publishes - Title: proposed convention, confirm with Scott ## Description On MP2 you named your symbols, wrote down relationships, and started interpreting them. Now we want to close the loop once, start to finish, however small. What is the context and its mathematical connection? What did you do with the mathematics, and what does it tell us about the context? Do its conclusions make sense, and if not, what is the disconnect? With this simple run complete, what are the next logical questions, and can the current pipeline address them or does it need to change? Type it in the box or upload a PDF, following the five sections in the guide and using their headings, and attach code if there is any. 1. Quick summary, the context and the equations you actually computed with, every symbol named 2. The computation, what you are computing, how, with what inputs, and what I need to see 3. The outcome, the output and the check that tells us whether it is sensible, what you expected before you looked and what you got 4. What the test told you, pass, fail, or partly, where the model stops making sense, and the next logical questions 5. What changed since the last form, and why? What do you need? Think of this as a log of your ongoing efforts Start wherever you are. A working model is a model that produces an output you can look at. Two symbols and one equation in a spreadsheet counts, and so does a calculation by hand. If your project is already a large pipeline, pick one piece of it and one check. If the feedback on your MP2 named a next step, that step is a fine choice here. A test that fails, written up honestly, is a complete checkpoint. The guide lists five kinds of check to pick from and has a worked example on its second page, one whale from the Day 16 model review, computed and checked against a known answer. Feedback comes back in the words of the rubric on the course page Project Work, mainly the rows for validity and correctness and for modeling process.
